Graduation & Commencement
Leading up to the ceremony - Before the event we will gather the information needed to make appropriate interpreter selections and provide them with preparation materials they need. It is recommended to book the interpreters 30 minutes prior to the event start time to ensure interpreters parking, placement, and set up. In addition to the date, start & end time, and location of the event, we will need the following information:
-
Deaf attendees names
-
Please let us know if the Deaf client has any specific interpreter requests
-
Please let us know the name(s) of the graduate(s) for the Deaf family
-
-
Name of the person they should check-in with onsite and where to find them
-
If there is a specific entrance for employees, please let us know
-
-
Order of commencement
-
Scripts, speeches, songs performed, and the names of the speakers
-
Parking - If there is a best place for interpreters to park or reserved parking for staff
During the Event - Graduations will require a team of 2 interpreters. The placement for the interpreters is best to the right or to the left of the stage, in the front. The Deaf section should be close to the interpreters; the Deaf section should have a view of both the interpreters and the speaker on the stage, simultaneously. Ensure the interpreters have a placement that is not “in the stands” as this puts the interpreters too close to work and too close for clients to view. Interpreters are usually placed on the floor, with a standing platform if necessary.
