Interviews &
New Hire Orientation

Prior to the Interview and Orientation - We will gather the information needed to make appropriate interpreter selections and provide them with preparation materials they need. In addition to the date, start & end time, and location of the meeting, we will need the following information:

  • Deaf client name

    • Please let us know if the Deaf client has any specific interpreter requests

  • Let us know the work position that the Deaf client is interviewing for or newly hired for.

    • Ie. If they are the therapist, IT consultant, HR management, etc.

    • Please let us know if position requires an interpreter with specific clearances

  • The number of participants in the interview or orientation

  • Interview questions list

  • Attire requirements for interview or orientation day - example; outdoor vs indoor, or closed toe shoes, masks, etc

  • Schedule for orientation day

  • Powerpoint slides, presentation materials, or other orientation materials

  • Entrance requirements - Please let us know if there is a gate, a code, specific door, etc to enter the worksite.

During interview & orientation - For most interviews, only 1 interpreter is needed. However, if it is an interview panel or longer in time, this can require 2 interpreters. Orientations tend to be classroom style, followed by hands-on training, and are longer in length. Usually these will need 2 interpreters.

Virtual Interviews - If the interview is virtual, please share a point of contact if there are technical difficulties with the link. Technical difficulties for connecting are very common. It is recommended to schedule the interpreters in advance of the meeting to ensure proper connection. A good practice is to “pin” the interpreters so that the Deaf participants can find the interpreters and see them in entirety. This also helps the interpreters coordinate as a virtual team if there are 2 interpreters.
