Prior to the appointment - We will gather the information needed to make appropriate interpreter selections and provide them with preparation materials they need. In addition to the date, start & end time, and location of the appointment, we will need the following information:
-
Deaf client name & age
-
Please let us know if the Deaf client has any specific interpreter requests
-
Age of the Deaf client (adult or child); a Deaf Interpreter may be necessary.
-
-
Please let us know the situation prompting the visit
-
Include if this visit is unexpected or scheduled with the family
-
-
If there is a possibility of child removal from home, please let us know, this may require a legal interpreter.
-
If visit is required by court, this may require a legal interpreter; or if there are other legal outcomes of the visit.
Office Visits -
These can typically vary from discussing program benefits to completing paperwork. Please let us know the specific purpose for this appointment.
Home visits -
Include the name and phone number of the case worker who will be on-site. Our interpreter will call them prior to entering the residence. Keep in mind, our interpreters will wait for the professional to arrive prior to entering the residence of a client.
School visits -
These may need a Deaf Interpreter, depending on the topic. Additionally, if these require police interviews, it will require both a Deaf Interpreter and a legal interpreter.
Number of interpreters: Family meetings will need a team of 2 interpreters, as there can often be multiple people talking quickly at once. Social worker check-in type visits and office appointments usually only need 1 interpreter. Deaf interpreters work with a hearing interpreter in some cases and this will be a team of 2 interpreters.
