Political Events

Political events for purposes of interpreter categorization will include non-partisan campaigns, such as running for school board.

Leading up to the event - Prior to the event we will gather the information needed to make appropriate interpreter selections and provide them with preparation materials they need. It is recommended to book the interpreters 15-30 minutes prior to the event start time to ensure proper set up and placement. In addition to the date, start & end time, and location of the event, we will need the following information:

  • Name of the candidate or current elected official

    • Office they are running for or holding

  • Name of speakers at the campaign

  • Name of the Deaf person attending the event

    • Many political events will book an interpreter regardless if a Deaf person is confirmed to be coming, since they’re open to the community. In this case we will mark it down as “None confirmed, open to community”

  • Please let us know if this event is recorded or live-streamed

Note: We take an active role in ensuring the interpreter for a campaign or an engagement has no conflict of interest with the event. Often the interpreter selected will be a more neutral party to the event and have no personal feelings toward the event; both negative or positive. However, if the event is culturally sensitive, we will book an interpreter who is a best community member and culture fit for the event.

During the Event - Typically political campaigns will require a team of 2 interpreters. The placement for the interpreters is best to the right or to the left of the stage, in the front. The table for the Deaf attendees should be the table or section closest to the interpreters.
